RTC in Vermont at Global Foundries
The Vermont RTC site is located in the town of Williston, on a seven-acre parcel owned by Global Foundries and adjacent to Global Foundries’s large semi-conductor facility. The Vermont climate offeres a great opportunity to test PV components and systems in a wet, humid, and cold climate (especially in the winter). The site has a 300 kVa transformer installed and buried conduit and is ready for PV systems to be installed. There is a small building onsite designed to house inverters and monitoring systems to protect them from the harsh Vermont winters.
In August of 2014 two PV systems were installed at the Vermont RTC.
- A 6 kW reference c-Si PV system was installed for the purpose of establishing a publically-available PV performance dataset at the site and for comparing its performance against future PV systems, which may use other materials (e.g., thin film PV).
- A 60 kW c-Si system that will be used to validate advanced power electronics (e.g., inverters and energy storage systems).
